Many people like yourself contact APSS Volunteer Program annually - accountants and professionals, homemakers and athletes, job seekers and trainers, students and seniors. People of all ages, ethnic and social backgrounds whose reasons for volunteering are as diverse as the people themselves.

 

Volunteers Must:

 

1.  Be 18 years of age or older

2.  Have legal immigration status in Canada; i.e. resident, citizen or student visa

3.  Be willing to make a 3 month to 6 year commitment (or longer) to volunteering, position dependent

4.  Must be willing to complete a criminal records search if required by a position

5.  Orientation and training are mandatory

6.  Must provide two references

 

AIDS Programs Volunteer Opportunities

Department/ Area

Opportunities in this Area

Needle Exchange

Packaging needles, dispensing new syringes, condoms, etc, recording statistics, making coffee and tidying the drop-in area.

Administration

Reception, photocopying, telephone follow-up on loaned library materials.

Support Services

Visitation with clients and/or loved ones, general shopping, deliveries, newsletter, cleaning.

Special Events/ Fundraising

World AIDS Day, telephoning, soliciting donations, co-ordination of specific event details, newsletter mail-out.

Education

Sit at information table at various events, community presentations, photocopying pamphlets and materials, assist with AIDS Awareness Week events.

Memorial Quilts

Assist in design and sewing of quilts memorializing people who have died of AIDS. Assist in hanging/take down of quilts at various events.

Board of Directors

Participate as a board member.
